1) Background of automotive electronic rear view mirrors:

The Camera Monitor System, abbreviated as CMS, is a product combination based on cameras and displays that can enhance the driver's visual perception of the vehicle's surroundings and rear side, further enhancing driving safety and comfort. Among them, the images captured by external cameras are displayed on the display screen inside the cabin after data processing, and functions such as blind spot warning and obstacle warning can be integrated.

Electronic rear view mirrors are mainly divided into electronic interior rear view mirrors and electronic exterior rear view mirrors. Electronic interior rear view mirrors are often referred to as streaming rear view mirrors, while electronic exterior rear view mirrors are generally referred to directly by electronic rear view mirrors (CMS). Compared to traditional optical rear view mirrors, CMS has a smaller volume. The rear view lens is replaced by a camera, which then displays the image on the display screen instead of traditional intuitive lenses. The perspective is more flexible and the field of view is wider. It can present better results in environments such as night, rain, snow, and fog.

Due to relevant regulations, CMS electronic rear view mirrors can only replace traditional optical mirrors in some countries and regions. However, domestic regulations are currently being implemented: On December 29, 2022, China issued the national standard GB 15084-2022 "Performance and Installation Requirements for Indirect Field of View Devices for Motor Vehicles", which added content such as "Camera Monitor System" and "Mirror and CMS Dual Function System". The new standard will officially come into effect on July 1, 2023. In addition to the previously released Beiqi Rubik's Cube and Lotus, some related models in China have also started to add optional electronic exterior rear view mirrors (CMS), such as the Avita 12 and SAIC Maxus 7.

2) Compared to traditional optical rearview mirrors, electronic rear view mirrors have many obvious advantages:

1. Wider field of view: Electronic rearview mirrors have changed the limitations of traditional optical rearview mirrors caused by factors such as mirror curvature, shape, size, and angle. Through different sensors and cameras, drivers can obtain more images, ensuring the safety of vehicle driving and other road participants.

2. Low environmental impact: Traditional optical rearview mirrors mainly expand their field of view through mirror reflection. If encountering adverse weather such as rain or snow, the driver's field of view is usually greatly limited. Electronic rear view mirrors can eliminate these environmental impacts through hardware and software, ensuring that the driver's field of view is not disturbed.

3. Reduce wind resistance and wind noise: The external device of electronic rear view mirrors only has the sensor components of the camera, which reduces the volume to one-third or even smaller than traditional optical rear view mirrors. Moreover, electronic rear view mirrors are more in line with aerodynamic principles and can further reduce high-speed wind noise.

4. Automatic light compensation: By using strong light suppression algorithms and weak light compensation algorithms, the light in the rear vehicle is weakened or compensated to ensure clear visibility of the rear vehicle and ensure driver safety.
